Dining
(BYO)
Free..Just
add time.
Fishing
on the rivermouth is very good, either surfcasting or spinning will
produce fresh fish, also the river is a great spot to stop to let
the kids look for shells, crabs and fish.
The
Three Sisters and Elephant rock - Drive down the Tongaporutu turn
off (Clifton Road) until you get to the small reserve there, check
the tides, best times outgoing tides, and walk out towards the sea.
Around the corner is a really neat beach walk and the "Three
Sisters" now jokingly called the 2 1/2 sisters because the
sea has worn away one of sisters, further along is the Moari rock
carvings and Elephant Rock. Give yourself 15-20minutes.
Whitecliffs
walkway - if you drive past the reserve and along the farm track
you are at the northern end of the Whitecliffs walkway.
Mount
Damper Falls - This is an 85 metre waterfall, one of the highest
in the North Island allow 20 minutes walk from the roadside.
Te
Horo Tunnel - This was constructed in the late 1800s and today
you can walk part way along the walkway and drop down onto the beach
and back again or vice versa.
Otherwise
try some of the attractions above, but please ring first.

Personal Comments - life in Taranaki.
Tongaporutu
is one of those places that if you blink you'll miss it, but
if you have some time and a sense of adventure it has so much
to offer.
A
great way to experience this area is to give Parani a call
at the Station and stay at their wonderful housetruck that
has the most amazing sea views you can imagine, also you will
have access to the Three Sisters through the farm as well
as a key to open the farm gates so you can drive down to the
WhiteCliffs themselves. Now Russel and Parani know the area
and the history and the great thing is they are happy to share
it. They will be able to tell you all the walks, fishing spots,
and unique features out there.
For
more info or ideas give me an email.
